Now that the Montreal Beach is up and running for the 50th season, it’s time to focus on another Red Letter Day;  the uncorking of Harry’s Oceanfront Bar & Grill for the season on May 9, 2015.  We’re unveiling new renovations and updates to our beachfront restaurant just in time for Mother’s Day weekend.

Patrons and guests will be challenged to keep their hands and feet still as their eyes and ears are entertained by The Bastard Sons of Levon Helm.

Great Ideas for Mother’s Day Weekend in Cape May

Whether or not you have ever been before, it’s time to take a May tour of Dr. Physick’s mansion.  Erected in 1879 by a gentleman deemed to be the richest man in Cape May, this 18-room structure is the only Victorian place on the cape and matches not one stick of the architectural style of neighboring houses. We know who built the house and obviously where and when it was built, but the burning question still waiting to be answered is why.

Not only is the house unique with its inverted chimneys, dormer windows that appear to have been attached to the roof from the outside and the series of wooden brackets that frame the front entrance, the owner was unique as well.  Dr. Physick was a bachelor who studied medicine in order to carry own the tradition of his grandfather who was the Father of American Surgery; however, this generation doctor never practiced.  Emlen Physick’s other claim to fame was that he was Cape May’s first vehicle owner.  The Physick Estate has been the filming site for several movies such as “The Prowler” in 1981.

Convention Hall will be the site of the Spring Home & Garden Festival with master gardeners ready for Q&A sessions on everything from tree care to butterfly garden and gourd birdhouse creation.  In addition to the 30 plus vendor booths, this year’s event features a silent auction for a watercolor by Patricia Rainey. Ms. Rainey has made Cape May her home for many years and enjoys painting Cape May places and things inside and outside of her studio.

May 23 2015 Country Legend Chrystal Gale, sibling of Loretta Lynn, will be in concert at Convention Hall. It this is not enough for music aficionados, on May 28th the Convention Hall stage will be owned by The Brigadoons, a troupe from Canada performing Irish and Sottish songs and dances.

May appears to be the month for music once again as Dr. John & The Nite Trippers honor the music of Louis Armstrong.  The upcoming Exit Zero Jazz Fest is slated to be one New Orleans native son saluting another native son.

From Derby Day via TV to Memorial Day celebrations in houses of worship as well as on the beach, what’s happening in May in Cape May is definitely exciting.

Booking a room at The Montreal Beach Resort  guarantees that you will have a fantastic ocean view and all the comforts of a resort-style vacation getaway.
