Even on a rainy day in the winter you won’t be bored in Cape May. All year you can attend gallery exhibits, spend time on the water (dress warmly), and enjoy the region’s beautiful natural environment. Some fun places to visit are:
- Cape May Fireman’s Museum is free and open to the public.
- Cape May Day Spa offers state-of-the-art services.
- Cape May Light House is a popular landmark and aid-to-navigation for mariners
Shop ’til you drop.
In Cape May you’ll find a variety of locally-owned shops. The shopping district is concentrated on an outdoor walking mall that’s complete with brick pathways, decorative fountains and garden planters which make for a lovely shopping experience. Stop by these fantastic boutiques.
- Stitch by Stitch specializes in Cape May and Victorian cross stitch, needle work and canvass design. No matter your experience level, you’ll find project ideas and supplies that fit your needs.
- Sunset Beach Gift Shop offers a great selection of souvenirs and collectibles. They are best known for their Cape May Diamond collection but also offer many other unique items.
- Splash features fine jewelry, handcrafts, local art and unique home décor. Plus, they carry beautiful and locally-made sea glass jewelry. They’re located behind the Washington Street Mall on Carpenter’s Lane.
Enjoy delicious food.
It’s no secret that Cape May is home is many excellent restaurants – most of which stay open through the winter. From small delicatessens to world-class oceanfront establishments, here there are a number of restaurants at which you can enjoy really wonderful food. Try:
- Black Duck on Sunset is one Cape May’s best restaurant and a local favorite, offering a creative menu and delicious raw bar. No one every goes home hungry. BYOB.
- Freda’s is charming neighborhood spot on Ocean Street featuring a menu that includes the best crab cakes in Cape May. BYOB.
- George’s is a Greek restaurant that is very reasonably priced and delicious. All entrees come with a Greek or Ceasar salad. Most cost about $18. George’s is BYOB.
Hang with your best friend.
If ever there was a place to spend quality time with your pooch, it’s Cape May – especially in the cooler months. We do want to caution you that some of Cape May’s beaches are not dog-friendly in the summer, so check before you plan your trip. Here are our dog-friendly beach recommendations:
- Higbee Beach Wildlife Management Area welcomes dogs from September 1 to April 30. Higbee is operated by the State and is open from 5am to 9pm.
- Sunset Beach is open for dogs September 15 to April 15.
- Cape May Point allows dogs from November 1 through March 14. However, dogs must be leashed at all times. For everyone’s safety, leashes may not exceed six feet in length and dogs must be accompanied by an adult.
