Thanks to the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts and Humanities (MAC), each year Cape May is home to a special schedule of events that honor the timeless traditions of Christmas. Beginning in late November, our charming seaside town is transformed into a winter wonderland complete with Christmas displays, holiday tours, special events and much more.
Here are the top five Cape May Christmas tours and events happening this year.
Physick Family Christmas House Tour
Kick-off the holiday season with the Physick Family Christmas House Tour. On this tour, visitors get an up-close-and-personal look at the Physick Estate, complete with authentic Victorian Christmas decorations. You’ll get a real sense of what it was like to be a member of the Physick family during the holidays in the late 19th century. After your tour, take a closer look at the enchanting Dickens Village display under our HUGE Christmas tree. There’s nothing better to get you in the holiday spirit.
Evening Yuletide House Tour
Experience an authentic Victorian Christmas at the Emlen Physick Estate. For those who love home interiors, the Victorian era, Christmas decorations, or simply the holiday season in general, this happening is perfect you. On the Evening Yuletide tour, you’ll spend 30 minutes learning how the Physick family entertained for the holidays. Then, visit the Caroll Gallery in the Carriage House for “An Old-Fashioned Christmas” exhibit that celebrates the timeless traditions of Christmas. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children.
Ghosts of Christmas Past Trolley Tour
Enjoy a visit from ghosts of Christmas past on this special seasonal trolley ride. Perfect for the whole family, this trolley tour includes holiday tales told by a member of the East Lynn Theatre Company and a scenic ride through historic Cape May, all decked out for the holidays. Catch your ride at the Washington Street Mall. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children (3-12).
Lamplighter Christmas House Tour
It’s no secret Cape May is home to many beautifully decorated homes and inns during the holiday season. The Lamplighter Christmas House Tour invites you to take a peek inside! This self-guided evening tour visits several of the town’s inns and private homes, bursting with holiday cheer. Visitors walk at their own pace. Also included in the tour is a trip to “An Old-fashioned Christmas” exhibit at the Physicks Estate.
Dickens Christmas Extravaganza
This lecture and performance series pioneered by respected Charles Dickens expert and lecturer, Elliot Engle, and his colleagues, will transport you to Dickens England and immerse you in his most famous works including A Christmas Carol and other less-known Christmas stories. A similar series on Charles Dickens led by Engle was aired on PBS across the country and his articles have been featured in many national publications. Buy as a package event at $175 for admission to all performances and lectures. Admission to individual lectures can be purchased for $15.
