Cape May National Wildlife Refuge
The Cape May National Wildlife Refuge is considered one the largest in the system. It was established to protect migratory birds along New Jersey’s coastline and supports 317 bird species, 42 mammal species, 55 reptile and amphibian species, and numerous fish, shellfish and other invertebrates. Here, there are several trails as well as bay shore and beach habitats in which students and teachers can learn about the environment. The Friends of Cape May National Wildlife Refuge also offers a variety of educational programs
Whale Watching
In Cape May, there are a few different opportunities to spot whales and dolphins. Enjoy a whale watching boat trip in the open Atlantic or spend some time on the beach around sunrise or sunset, where you’re likely to see schools of dolphin swimming by.

Sunset Beach offers the most spectacular sunsets. Plus, each night there is a flag lowering ceremony and you can visit the site of the S.S. Atlantus World War l concrete ship, and the World War ll “Concrete Tower”.
