Thanks for 50 Years of Memories!

As we quickly approach the end of our 50th birthday year at this Cape May beachfront resort – the best word that comes to mind is “Thanks!”

For every memory we can recall, there is a resounding Thank You behind it; for without you, our valued guests, we would not have memories to share at the Montreal Beach Resort. Here’s a brief compilation of this year’s memorable milestones.

March 2016
We unveiled our limited-edition Chateau Montreal / Harry’s Reserve!

“A Toast to 50 Years! Like a fine wine, The Montreal Beach Resort has been aging to perfection for five decades. And after half a century, we know it takes care, love, and lots of people to create a perfect blend. Thank you for being part of our Cape May story. We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate 50 years of Montreal Moments. We raise a glass to you. Cheers!”

This is the inscription that appears on every bottle of “Chateau Montreal/Harry’s Reserve” – the Montreal Beach Resort’s wine – bottled exclusively to commemorate the Cape May Beachfront Hotel’s golden anniversary celebration in 2016.

We thought that a commemorative wine would be a great way to ‘toast’ the hotel’s 50th birthday, and you – our loyal guests – to join in the celebration! And it turned out that it was, as hundreds of guests purchased and enjoyed bottles of this very special vintage.

April 2016
Our Grand Opening Weekend Was a Grand Slam—Thanks to our Guests!

During early April 2016, Montreal Beach Resort celebrated our 2016 season opening with back-to-back Grand Opening Celebration Weekends (April 8-10 and April 15-17).  Thanks to you, our loyal guests, this Cape May hotel was fully booked, as hundreds of guests flocked to the Cape May beach to help us celebrate the launch of our 50th Birthday season. Guests (many of whom are loyal, repeat customers) enjoyed complimentary beverages and snacks in our hospitality room. We talked, reminisced and laughed for hours.

Beautiful Cape May beach weather highlighted the weekends’ ongoing  activities and excitement in welcoming the 2016 summer season to Cape May, NJ, and celebrating our Golden Anniversary.

We introduced our coffee table book, “A Cape May Story”

“Some of my favorite childhood memories took place in Cape May and at the Montreal – such as spending time with my beloved grandfather, and learning to swim in the Montreal’s pool,” shares Kathy Orr, meteorologist for Philadelphia, PA’s Fox 29, in the foreword she drafted to dedicate our Cape May hotel’s new biographical book, ‘A Cape May Story.’”

Heartwarming memories like this, historical facts and nostalgic photos are found throughout the fun, fact-filled coffee table book. Written by Cape May resident and author Diane Stopyra, ‘A Cape May Story’ honors this family-friendly vacation resort’s 50th anniversary.

We really wanted this book to represent all of the memories that we so lovingly share at the Montreal Beach Resort, as well as recall the memories of how it all began. The 160-plus-page book, ‘A Cape May Story,’ documents the Montreal Beach Resort’s history and growth throughout the years.

May 2016
We celebrated 50 years of service with the grand re-opening of the all-new Harry’s

The Montreal Beach Resort in Cape May, NJ celebrated its 50th year of service with elected officials, community members, resort staff and family members on May 11 at the hotel’s onsite, newly renovated restaurant, Harry’s Ocean Bar & Grille. The celebration also included an unveiling of newly renovated, deluxe look for the resort’s restaurant, and its panoramic patio bar.

Elected officials presented proclamations to the Hirsch family, owners of the Montreal Beach Resort since its opening, and stories, history and laughter were shared by the family and guests.

“It was a wonderful experience seeing so many people come out to help us celebrate our 50th anniversary – and cut the ribbon to a new season at our all-new Harry’s Ocean Bar & Grille,” said Co-principal Larry Hirsch.

June 2016
We were making headlines!

Much to our surprise and delight, the media has been abuzz about our milestone and new restaurant. The attention has been welcomed – although humbling – as we look back on the 50 year history of this great family-owned Cape May Hotel, and look ahead to the promise that perhaps, four generations and beyond will continue the legacy that the great Harry Hirsch began half a century ago.

We were delighted to have Fox 29’s Kathy Orr as a special guest to our event. Kathy “grew up” vacationing here – and is the author of the foreword to our 50th anniversary commemorative book, “A Cape May Story.” She also posted a live video of the event with us on her Facebook page.

Philadelphia news station CBS-3, came for the May 11 celebration and rolled out for its viewers a touching tribute to the hotel and its founder. As Reporter Vittoria Woodill put it, “through perseverance but preservation” three generations of family have made the Montreal a Cape May landmark and made hundreds of friends along the way.  Check out the story here.

SNJ Today was also on-hand to cover our dedication ceremony and aired this story.

And the rest of the year has been amazing!

Once all the doors had opened and the warm weather moved in –our 50th birthday celebration came into full swing. We celebrated with old friends and new, with laughter, great food and drink, and a sense that everyone that traveled to spend time here was a part of something very special. Honestly, though, it was you, our guests, that made it special.

Thanks for the half-century of memories here at the Montreal Beach Resort – and here’s to the next 50 years. See you in the spring!
